Residents of Belvedere Hills were said to be outraged this week after somebody wrote the word “SEX” on one of the green boxes on the green area. The message was discovered during an otherwise routine walk past the grass, the footpath and the community’s most widely discussed piece of electrical infrastructure.
Everyone calls it a green box, although its official description is closer to an electricity cabinet. “It is not a box for greens, and it is not a green light for this sort of thing,” one resident explained, while declining to say what sort of thing they had initially assumed it was.
“It’s bad enough that the box is green. Now it’s making statements,” said one anonymous onlooker.
The incident has triggered calls for the writing to be removed, the author to be identified and the box to be treated with the dignity normally reserved for important public furniture.
At the time of going to press, the word remained visible, the box remained powered and the green area remained technically a green area. Residents are reminded that if they have something to say, there are safer outlets.
